M12.9 Climate Change
I personally find it troubling that the government is not really doing anything about climate change when the effects are observable. I was recently diagnosed with asthma and would hate to find out about any other health issues because of certain exposures that I am unaware of. My children also suffer from allergies and I do not want them to get sicker. There has been so many natural disasters. The frequent wild fires, longer drought seasons, and intense tropical storms. The amount of money that goes into reconstruction after these disasters occur can actually go towards eliminating some of the causes of climate change like investing in geoscale engineering projects and a mass adoption of solar energy and battery technology.
2) As a public health professional, what do you think needs the greatest attention right now?
As a public health professional I think that the we need to stop fossil fuel and increase awareness on the effects that humans bring on climate change because if people start to change their lifestyles and eliminate waste then we can fight to show the government how important it is. I think that if people become educated on climate change especially those that experience the effects of it then we can work hard together to make the air cleaner.

3) If you were visiting with a long-lost relative who had never heard about climate change, how would you describe it and its attendant human health and ecological threats?
If I were visiting a long-lost relative who had never heard of climate change I would show them an example of how heat in being trapped on the earth and how the people and the environment is suffering from it. I would explain to them that we need to change our way of doing things to get the trapped heat out so that we can have better health and avoid toxic exposures.

I totally agree with you, many kids in my community are either suffering from asthma or allergy and for sure the cause is our environment and the climate change. As you said the people need to be more aware about the climate change and the impact on the public and environmental health to reduce the causative factors in order to save our world.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the concern over natural disasters, Brittany! It seems like an abnormal amount of disasters are occurring worldwide, and as humans we have nothing to protect us from them and must deal with the consequences. The only control we have is our responsibility to take care of our environment.
