5.4 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) and Water Quality
The city of Sacramento has two intake structures, one located on the American River and one located on the Sacramento River. Each feeds water to a water treatment plant, E.A. Fairbairn Water Treatment Plant on the American River and the Sacramento River Water Treatment Plant on the Sacramento River. The treatment processes at both plants are the same.
After the water is treated, it flows through our distribution system to reservoirs where it is stored until it is needed. There are several reservoirs located throughout the City.

- Do you drink bottled water? Yes, I do drink bottled water I buy it by the gallon because when I was buying the individual water bottles my son would waste it and I would find half filled water bottles around the house.
- How does this square with what you learned when you watched the Story of Bottled Water (see next exercise)?

Through my readings about the difference between tap and bottled water, I found that certain brands of bottled water have been shown to have more contaminants than tap water due to the leaching of harmful chemicals from the plastic bottles. The scientific evidence is clear that all plastic bottles leach chemicals into the water.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Brittany. I was also using plastic water bottles often but now realize it's much more cost-efficient and safer to drink tap water. Reusable water bottles are the way to go and I think institutions are becoming more aware of this. I've noticed that schools and gyms now offer filtered water fountains for people to fill their reusable water bottles.
