M 2.3 Household Products
Module 2.4 Household Products
The household product that I searched is Lysol Bathroom Cleaner, Aerosol, Regular Scent-Old Product. I normally use this product when cleaning my bathroom because I do not like the smell of bleach when using Clorox brand and the scent from Lysol is not as strong. It was interesting to see that the health rating is a 2 (Slight) especially after reading about all the precautions that you should take when using this product. I would assume that if you should avoid skin contact then it should be really dangerous to inhale. I always thought about killing the germs when cleaning my house but I realized that I am actually slowly harming myself.
Another household product that I use daily is Ajax dish detergent. There is NO INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER which is scary. For that reason alone I am going to change the dish detergent that I use. I really like how these websites are bringing things to light. It is important to know what we are coming into contact with and what we are ingesting into our bodies. Knowing this information can help us avoid cancer. People are usually shocked and unaware of what gave them cancer but sometimes the answer is right in front of our faces. The reason why people do not know about the toxic in certain products is because companies will end up losing money. African American women became aware of what relaxers can do to their hair and body and now that industry is losing a lot of money. If companies just try to use less harmful chemicals then they would not have to worry about it. Yes people want to pay less for their products but would you rather pay more in medical costs in the future? If people were not offered the cheap harmful products then they would not have a choice. This was really good information.
Hi Brittany,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the post.
Like you I am totally surprised with my search regarding the use of the household products and how they safe. Some allergic reaction can be developed from skin contact, eye irritation, and respiratory irritation, the management will be easy by washing our hands with water, rinse our eyes with plenty of water, and breath fresh air. I hope these information are useful.
The fact that Ajax soap has no provided information is definitely scary! I use the same soap and never thought of it as something that could be harmful my family and myself. So many of the products we use to keep our homes and belongings clean are harmful to us and we don't even know it! Glad we have these resources to look products up before we buy now.
